Fishing in Mistra
Follow the big trout from Lake Storsjøen into one of Rendalen's most famous fishing rivers.
Mistra is more than a river. It is part of Rendalen's fishing culture – and is known far beyond the municipality for the big trout that migrate upstream from Lake Storsjøen.
Mistra flows through a varied landscape in Rendalen. The river offers calm stretches and deep pools, as well as rapids and more demanding sections. This makes it an interesting destination for different types of sport fishing.
It is the big trout, however, that has made Mistra famous among anglers. The fish migrate from Lake Storsjøen into the river, and the pursuit of these large trout is an important part of Mistra's fishing tradition.
When the big trout moves upstream
The big trout in Mistra are lake-run fish from Lake Storsjøen. When conditions are right, the fish move upstream into the river. This migration is what has made Mistra a well-known destination among sport fishermen.
The largest documented trout caught in Mistra weighed 9.8 kilos and was caught in 1935.
You may not catch many fish. But the possibility of encountering one truly big trout is part of what makes Mistra so exciting.

Mistra can be fished using several different methods. For big trout, wobblers are one of the recommended approaches, while fly anglers can try streamers and other imitations. The best method will vary with water level, temperature, light and where the fish are holding.
Fishspot highlights wobblers as a relevant method when targeting big trout in Mistra. Wobblers in the 7–10 cm range have been used successfully.
Streamers can be an exciting option when targeting larger fish. Large baitfish imitations can be particularly interesting.
